Freeholder Candidates Zallie and DeCristofaro meet with Citizens

May 26, 2010

Freeholder Candidates Scot DeCristofaro and George Zallie, along with Surrogate Candidate  Christine Leone-Zwilling were on hand Tuesday night for a fundraiser hosted by Dilworth Paxon.  The event hosted over 75 people in whom the candidates spent time with each person and listening to them about the problems that face our county, and were listening to the idea of what type of legacy our generation will leave behind?  As the candidates were speaking it was brought to their attention that when comparing Camden County to other counties and areas in the region it is quiet obvious that the county is lacking something.  Both George and Scot who own businesses understand the problems real businesses and regular citizens face in Camden County and New Jersey.  As they gazed out toward Camden County they noticed as did all the people at the event that one of the tallest if not the tallest building in Camden City is the government building which houses the many forms of government symbolizing that the largest enterprise in Camden County is Government not the private sector.

How much of your pay goes toward paying for programs that seem to go nowhere? How many times have you looked at your pay check only to see more money was take out for the government and how many times have you heard politically connected companies awarded contracts?

Meet the Candidates

Meet the Candidates

GOP Freeholder Candidates George Zallie, Scot DeCristofaro, GOP Congressional Candidate Jon Runyan, & Surrogate Candidate Chris Leone-Zwillinger

On Monday Night Jon Runyan along with Freeholder Candidates George Zallie and Scot Decristofaro attened the Republican Jewish Coaltion meeting.  George and Scot spoke about the issues in Camden County such as taxes. One thing to consider is what type of legacy will we leave behind? To them they run not for themselves but for the furture of the county and where is it going right now.  both Geoge and Scot have real world leadership and understand the economic issues facing Camden County since they are both buisness owners.  When considering the issues and the problems that we are now facing it is impoortant to ask what direction do we  take? What is it that you would want for your children? it is not any easy question to answer but there are only simple answers a legacy that other generations can look at and say that we were able to give them a better county and a stronger future built on sound reason and sound principles.

Thank You Mayor

http://blog.camdengop.com/2010/05/11/thanks-jim-maley-taxes-are-going-up-17-in-collingswood/Collingswood is the true essences of the American town. Because of unchecked government spending, Maley now finds himself choosing between even more borrowing, taxing, and spending or finding more effective means to build a budget that is truly sustainable for all its citizens. Guess what Maley chose??

Collingswood Mayor Jim introduced at a borough budget that would escalate municipal taxation by 17%. The taxpayer who owns an average home assessed at $232,000 would see an increase to the municipal portion of their tax bill by $287.

Maley wants to cut jobs in the most important areas of its community, the Fire and Police departments. The Collingswood mayor says he has a budget short fall. According to a report in The Retrospect, Maley will layoff a total of four police officers, three firefighters and two public works employees.

The best part is Maley wants a $750,000 bond to pay for the Lumber Yard project and help sustain the “PRIDE Grant”. The pride grant gives home owners $150 if they do something to improve the outside of their house. Yes it is true Male is borrowing money, paying interest on the borrowed money and then giving the money away for his pet “Pride Grant” project.

The Camden County Republican Freeholder team of George Zallie and Scot DeCristofaro think this is just wrong.

George Zallie and Scot DeCristofaro

“It seems Jim Maley got budgeting tips form the current Camden County Freeholder board.“

said George Zallie, Republican Freeholder candidate.

“Reckless budgeting and irresponsible bonding is exactly what  Ed McDonnell and the Camden County Freeholders are most known for.  I do not see how any responsible government official could raise taxes, lay off essential public safety employees, and borrow money to fund a PRIDE grant.  Appalling!”

Zallie’s running mate, Scot DeCristofaro, said,

”If Collingswood is to have a sustainable future in the long run, it should look to towns like Haddon Heights that are actually seeing a decrease in taxes.  Instead of following the tax and spend Camden County freeholder lead Jim Maley should call Scott Alexander or Rose Fitzgerald to see how Haddon Heights was able to introduce a budget tat lowed property taxes”

Haddon Heights will see a decrease in taxes if the Camden County Freeholders do not raise taxes above 6%.  The best part is Haddon Heights is lowering taxes without laying off any public safety or public works employees.  Imagine if Collingswood was able to do this for its citizens. The final vote on the Collingswood budget will be June 14th.

“With what is going on — not just in Collingswood, but all throughout most of Camden County, reform and change is the order of the day, and I’m ready to do my part,”

noted Scot DeCristofaro, a New Jersey businessman.

Our Time

March 21, 2010

For the first time since the American Revolution the citizens of America could become subjects of the government and the government will no longer be subject to the people. In these final hours of the new Health Care reform/ takeover we must sincerely consider this as a true option from a government once made of, for, and by the people.

In a moment not unlike today, there was a time when it seemed our nation was going down a path that was seen as an unstoppable wrong way, there was a time when it had seemed America had witnessed its final days, and America had run its course in the history of nations. There was a time in which a generation of Americans cried out to history and refused to go quietly into the night as they accepted their role to preserve the trust of liberty given to them. Each of those times the American spirit came back to remind the Republic and the world that when times are hardest and it seem that all was lost Americans stood firm in their belief and in their resolve for a nation built by the sacred trust of liberty that has been handed down from one generation of Americans to the next. That time has come again. Years from now when we are in our sunset year what will future generations of Americans say of us in our time? Will they ask what the American dream was or what it meant or will we pass on to them freedom and liberty that we cherish so dealer today for them to experience it for themselves?

The greatness and prestige of America  is not found in government but in Americans everywhere. It is found in the American worker, inventor, investor, builder, and educator. It is found in the moms and dads, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors that make up the towns, cities, communities, and states. It is found in the small shops, super centers, coffee shops, schools, buses, police, fireman and our hospitals.  The greatness and prestige is not found in Washington, DC or any of the state capitols. It is found in the 308 million Americans who make up our vast and great republic. That time of showing what America truly is has now come again and it up to our generation to protect the sacred liberty that was entrusted to us 234 years ago. We the people must stand for the ideas of which our Republic was built and defend them now, for in a given moment the freedom that we have known can be snuffed out faster than we know.  Government is most dangerous when it says it can give you everything desired and blind us of the dangers with in the very government that can take it all away when we allow it to make us dependent on it.

As we approach the final count down to The Democratic Health Care Reform, the takeover of the health care industry, we must ask ourselves is this something we want in our Republic; of, for, and by the people?  Is this health care bill which is built for special interests, favored groups, and politically connected individuals something we can allow in our nation? There is only one special interest group that the American government must listen to and that is the American people. Americans must be weary of a government so deeply entangled in other sectors of the economy. We must ask why our government who has a stake in the government owned Chrysler and GM and who owns large stakes in the banking industry now believes it must now have a large monopoly in the health care industry?  Members of the present administration call this reform the new “Law of the land”. If that is true than will this new health care reform supersedes the civil compact that “We the People” call our US Constitution? Can we trust a group of elites so out of touch with the American people to take form us our rights of life and liberty so eloquently expressed in our Constitution?  More importantly does it have a constitutional right to do this? Many cases have been placed before the Supreme Court and each time as made it clear that government may not infringe on the rights of the state and the citizens so dully explained by the 9th and 10th amendments which are retained by the people and states. The Supreme Court also has made it clear that government may not interfere in contracts between entities based on the 5th amendment of life, liberty, and property.  Last time I checked I still own my body as does each and every American own their body and in that their health which makes it property.  Congressman Andrews of NJ’s 1st District says this bill will affect 3 types of people, those with private insurance, people on Medicare or Medicaid, and those who are uninsured.

In these final hours when America looks to each citizen, Americans must be able to still say that great island of liberty is still home of the free and that the torch of liberty that has been burning for all mankind since the inception of this republic still burns for all who seek its freedom and it will be after we are departed. That this last greatest hope for humanity does not vanish from this earth and that the sacred trust of liberty given to each of us is able to be passed to the next generation of Americans.  This generation of American must answer the call that our republic so desperately needs now more than ever to accept the burden and glory that we call freedom.  The sacred fire of liberty and freedom is at stake today. Call your congressman tell them what you  think and want,  make them answer to you and if it is not the answer you want remind them they work for you.  Call them at (202)224-3121. Rob Andrews’s office numbers are (202)225-6501, (856)546-5100, and (856)848-3900. John Adler’s numbers are (202)225-4765, (856)985-2777, and (732)608-7235. Call them remind them that they work for you. Remind them that the sacred trust of liberty and freedom that has been given to us by generations of Americans before must be preserved for the next generation. Call them and let them know your thoughts and remind the government they work for America not the other way around.  Our time is now to preserve for future generations, the liberties and freedom we so dearly hold true to ourselves.

Collingswood Borough officials are calling in outside help to move the LumberYard redevelopment project along.
On Monday night, the commissioners appointed Joseph Slaton as a financial consultant to the LumberYard project. Mayor Jim Maley said Slaton would help the borough re-structure debt associated with the redevelopment project “to make it easier for us to get this to the finish line.”
Borough Administrator Brad Stokes said Slaton will assess the LumberYard project as a whole, as well, looking at anticipated income, expenses and long-term tax impact.
According to Stokes, borough coffers received $379,000 in revenue from occupied residential and retail units last year. Those funds are directly applied to borough debt service.

Uncle Sam: Ruling Without the Consent of the Governed

Uncle Sam: Ruling Without the Consent of the Governed

By on 2.27.10 @ 7:06AM

No wonder American politics is a mess.  Consider the gap between the governed and those who govern.  According to a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports:

The founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, states that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Today, however, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that the federal government enjoys the consent of the governed.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% disagree and say the government does not have the necessary consent. Eighteen percent (18%) of voters are not sure.
